You know it's funny because people ask me what I do and I tell them I am a professional director and actress. They look at me really funny and then ask "But what is your real job?" I look at the equally as funny and say, "I'm sorry. I don't understand the question." Why is it that being in theatre or arts and entertainment isn't considered a "real" job? Maybe it is just because of the area I'm in that it isn't a common thing. People aren't used to hearing the words theatre or musicals and definitely aren't used to seeing them. But I just want to let people know that we are here to stay and we aren't going anywhere. I have always wanted to bring theatre to this town because I believe it is long overdue. Personally, I think the world would be a better place if we all did a theatre, don't you?
This has been a pretty great week so far! I had one of my private students book her first professional gig. Another one got a lead in a local play. And I started with a new young student who is a natural and loves taking lessons! We are sending off for the license for our Fall Broadway Jr. show. I think I'm going to start dropping hints to see if people can figure out what it is! That is always fun! So let's see. Broadway After Dark auditions, Pippin goes up in 2 weeks, private lessons are in full swing, theatre class showcase is in May, camps start in June....whew! Not to mention all the fundraising we are doing! I am very proud of my teenagers for raising money for their show this year. They did a great job! Now if I could just get a studio...
OMG! Time is just flying by! Before you know it, summer will be here! Truth be told, I can't wait for the warmer weather. Plus, that means we will be gearing up for our camp and Broadway After Dark!! Woo Hoo! I will be holding auditions again this year so I hope that I will find even more talent then we did last year! Ok. Enough blogging. I have to get back to work!
